Thanks Peter

Sports Science is great but sometimes it can be manipulated. GPS data is awesome but what happens at the neuromuscular junction cannot be explained by video or GPS. Funny article from the AFL. Yhe this was great and that was great and we changed this and that, but er yeh, just at the end, hammies are up!

Great article Loris..

So true that statistics acquired from GPS can be interpreted and expressed to support almost any agenda. In this case that "playing intensity", that is aerobic workload has increased. But as you say this results in higher fatigue levels and once a player is confronted by a situation where they need to produce a maximal effort injury is more likely to occur. The AFL want a more free flowing (entertaining) game and less incidence of injury probably impossible. I think GPS is fantastic but the AFL need to be fully aware of the limitations of the technology before they make grand statements about the "intensity" of the game. Or, qualify each statement by defining the intensity they are referring to.

Keep up the good work Loris.
Buona Fortuna!
